News: Motorcyclist killed, passenger injured in collision with SUV in Seminole

SEMINOLE, FL – A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was critically injured when they collided with an SUV in Pinellas County Saturday afternoon, reports WFLA.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, 56-year-old Stephen Smith was operating a Harley Davidson Street Glide when he tried to beat a red light at the intersection of Seminole Boulevard and 54th Avenue North at about 12:30 p.m. Smith crashed into a Nissan Rogue driven by 46-year-old Kristen Johnson, who had been preparing to make a left turn.

Smith and his passenger, 54-year-old Robyn Cox, were both ejected from the motorcycle. Smith was pronounced dead at an area hospital, while Cox was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Johnson and her 14-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries.

Deputies said it did not appear that impairment contributed to the accident, which remains under investigation.

When a motorcycle and a car collide, it is almost always the rider of the motorcycle who is most severely injured.
