News: Pickup truck passenger critically injured in collision on Interstate 75
BROOKSVILLE, FL – A collision between a car and a pickup truck on Interstate 75 in Hernando County left a woman critically injured, reports The Suncoast News.
Troopers responded to the scene Saturday morning on I-75 south near State Road 50 after the incident occurred at about 4:13 a.m. Investigators determined that a sedan going at a high rate of speed on I-75 crashed into the back of a pickup truck as the two vehicles were headed south.
Both vehicles hit a guardrail before going back across the travel lanes and ending up on a shoulder of the highway. A 50-year-old woman who was a passenger in the pickup was ejected and hospitalized in critical condition. The driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries. Both are from Jennings, Florida.
The driver of the sedan, a 33-year-old man from Fruitland Park, suffered minor injuries. The FHP says charges are pending in the case as the investigation continues.
The southbound lanes of I-75 were shut down near the scene for several hours.
