News: Skateboarder dies after being struck by hit-and-run driver in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, FL – Police are trying to find the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash in Clearwater Thursday morning, reports Fox 13 News.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Tyler Deremo of Largo, was riding a skateboard when he was struck by a Toyota Sienna minivan in the vicinity of South Keene Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard at about 2 a.m. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Morton Plant Hospital.

Investigators say the driver who left the scene following the incident has been identified as 32-year-old Sergio Mendoza-Mesquite. The vehicle involved was found abandoned at an area school bus compound, but police determined that the owner of the van was not the driver involved in the crash.

Deremo was riding his skateboard within the lanes of traffic when the crash occurred, according to police..

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact Clearwater Police.
