News: Woman charged with driving into Manatee County deputy

BRADENTON, FL – Authorities say a deputy in Manatee County was injured after being struck by a woman driving a stolen car on Wednesday.

According to WTSP the incident happened as law enforcement officers tracked down the car, a stolen Ford Taurus, in the area of 30th Avenue East and 1st Street in Bradenton.

A Manatee County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to give commands to the driver, a 23-year-old woman identified as Katarina Vanfossen. But the sheriff’s office says Vanfossen tried to get away in reverse. She accelerated and struck the deputy, who wound up on the car’s hood and windshield.

The driver then hit another police cruiser and the impact sent the deputy several hundred feet onto the pavement. She was hospitalized with various injuries but was reported to be in good condition.

Vanfossen got out of the car and was arrested. She now faces numerous charges, including motor vehicle theft, fleeing to elude, and second-degree attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
