News: Truck driver dead after collision with train in Plant City

PLANT CITY, FL – A truck driver died after his vehicle was struck by a train in Hillsborough County Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

According to Fox 13 News , the truck was on the tracks at the railroad crossing at Jim Lefler Circle and US-92 in Plant City when the accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.  The driver, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said there was no indication of criminal wrongdoing, and that it appears to have been a tragic accident. Amtrak crews told investigators the truck did not move out of the way despite the fact that they blew the horn several times, signaling that the train could not slow down.

Detectives are trying to determine why the truck driver did not move off the tracks.  Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
