News: Tampa man cited for ‘move over’ violation in crash with Road Ranger truck

TAMPA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver was cited for a violation after crashing into a Road Ranger truck stopped on a highway Saturday morning.

The accident occurred on Interstate 4 east near the exit for McIntosh Road shortly after 7 a.m., according to the Tampa Bay Times. A 42-year-old Tampa man was driving a pickup truck west in the outside lane of I-4 when he spotted the Road Ranger truck in the same lane. The FHP said the pickup driver tried passing a truck in the center lane but was unable to leave the outside lane and ended up slamming into the back of the Road Ranger vehicle. No one was injured in the crash.

Troopers said the ranger had been cleaning up debris in the roadway and the vehicle had its arrow flasher on, notifying motorists to move over. The pickup driver was cited for failing to obey Florida’s ‘move over’ law, requiring motorists to change lanes when emergency, Road Ranger and other service vehicles are ahead.
