News: Head-on collision on Gandy Boulevard kills grandfather, injures infant

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – A collision between two cars on Gandy Boulevard Saturday left a man dead and his infant grandson injured, according to WFLA.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old driver lost control of an SUV at about 3:30 p.m. after the front left tire came off on Gandy Boulevard N at the intersection with Oak Street NE.

The SUV went across the median and entered the path of a westbound sedan, leading to a head-on crash. A 47-year-old man and his two-week-old grandson who were in the back seat of the sedan were both ejected. The grandfather was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released. The baby, who was in a car seat that was not restrained, sustained minor injuries. The 22-year-old parents in the sedan and the SUV driver also suffered minor injuries.

The crash shut down the westbound lanes on Gandy Boulevard at Brighton Bay.
