News: Man charged in Tampa hit-and-run that left bicyclist seriously injured

TAMPA, FL – Authorities say a man turned himself in and now faces charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident in Tampa that injured a bicyclist, according to the Tampa Bay Reporter.

26-year-old Hector Gabriel Del Hoyo was driving a Kia Rondo station wagon east on 136th Avenue when the accident took place Saturday at about 2:50 p.m. Investigators say Del Hoyo went through a stop sign at N 20th Street and hit another vehicle. Both vehicles were pushed toward an intersection where the Kia struck a bicyclist. Del Hoyo then allegedly left the scene on foot and was picked up by a friend.

The bicyclist was transported to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Hillsborough County sheriff’s office said Del Hoyo admitted to driving the Kia involved in the crash when he turned himself in. He faces several charges, including leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and driving without a valid driver’s license.
